Why it matters
Resilience provides a cross-scale way to examine how biological systems respond to perturbation.
What is unknown
The causal order connecting molecular change, reduced buffering capacity and functional decline remains incompletely resolved.

Concept-stage proposition: declining resilience may be detectable as reduced molecular-network buffering before overt functional change.

Which molecular aging signatures are causal rather than correlative?

Why it matters
Association with chronological age alone cannot establish a mechanistic role in functional change.
What is unknown
The combination of designs and evidence needed to distinguish upstream drivers from downstream correlates is still an open methodological problem.

Concept-stage proposition: perturbation, longitudinal and genetic evidence could identify a smaller set of upstream molecular features.

Selection criterion

A question must be important, genuinely open and answerable by a coherent programme.

Evidence criterion

A central proposition must connect to observable outcomes and explicit uncertainty.

Stop criterion
